Give a persona a clear job

Personality and Instructions tells a persona how you want it to work. Write the standing guidance there, then use chat for the task you want done today.

Before you start

Create a persona and assign a usable AI provider. Open the persona from Agent Personas.

1. Write instructions you can judge

Find Personality and Instructions. Cover four things:

The job: what this persona is responsible for.
The result: what useful work should look like.
The boundaries: when it should ask, wait, or get your approval.
The style: how much detail you want and how it should organize answers.

Instructions for a project planner

Help me plan small website projects. Turn each brief into an ordered checklist with a clear next action. Ask about missing requirements before making a major assumption. Keep recommendations practical for a small team. Draft messages and content for my review. Ask before publishing, sending messages, or changing a connected service. Keep status updates short.

Replace the example’s job and limits with your own. Specific guidance such as “ask before sending” is easier to use than “be careful.” Instructions guide the persona’s behavior. Tool access is configured separately in Persona Settings.

2. Save the instructions

Edit the text in Personality and Instructions.
Choose Save Instructions when it appears.
Wait for the save confirmation.
Choose Open Chat and give the persona a small task.

When the field contains text, its background and border stay quiet until you hover or focus it. Click the text to edit it. The field remains editable even when its border is hidden.

3. Put task details in chat

Provide the brief, material to work from, and the result you need now. You do not need to rewrite the standing instructions for every new task.

A task for this persona

Plan a one-page website for our bakery. We already have photos and opening hours. We still need menu copy and a cake-order inquiry form. Give me the next five tasks. Keep the work as a draft.

4. Improve one thing at a time

If the answer is too long, add a concrete length preference. If it guesses missing details, tell it which decisions require a question. Save the revised instructions and try another small task.

If the persona reports that it cannot use a service, review capabilities and assigned integrations. Mentioning a service in the instructions does not connect that service or grant access to it.
