Connect or repair provider credentials
Use the credential fields on the provider’s settings page. The connection method depends on the provider and the account you want PersonaStack to use.
Before you start
Open AI Providers and select the connection. For a new connection, start with + Add AI Provider. Check the workspace and connection name before entering credentials.
1. Use the offered connection method
- OpenAI: setup offers Use ChatGPT / Codex subscription and Use OpenAI API key. Follow the displayed sign-in link and code for a subscription connection. Enter a project API key for the API-key option.
- Anthropic: choose Anthropic API key or Claude Code. The Claude Code option asks for the token returned by
claude setup-token. - Google: enter a Gemini API key from Google AI Studio.
- xAI: use the xAI API-key option or complete the Google Vertex fields shown for that connection method.
- OpenRouter: choose Connect OpenRouter to authorize the connection. Use an API key offers manual entry.
- Vultr: enter the Vultr API key requested by the form.
- OpenAI Compatible: enter the endpoint and its API key. Configure cluster routing if the endpoint needs it.
- Ollama: enter a server URL reachable from your selected Kubernetes location. Use the optional auth headers only when your server requires them.
Enter keys and tokens in these credential fields. Keep them out of persona instructions and chat messages.
2. Finish the connection
- Complete the credential fields for your selected method.
- Follow any sign-in or validation action shown on the page.
- Open the model dropdown and choose an available model.
- Complete AI Agent Location.
- Save the provider and read the result beside the form.
Saved secret fields may show Configured (paste to replace) or a masked value. Follow the field’s instructions to keep the existing credential. You do not need to paste the key again just to change a model.
3. Repair an existing connection
Start with the status message. For an expired OpenAI subscription connection, use Reconnect with OpenAI. For OpenRouter, use Reconnect OpenRouter. For a rejected API key or token, replace it in the corresponding credential field and save.
If the error names billing, usage, or model access, changing the credential alone may not help. Address the named issue in the provider account, then return to PersonaStack and try the task again.

Once the credentials are accepted, choose the model and reasoning settings. For a private endpoint, also review agent locations and routing.
