Set up AI providers for your personas

An AI provider connection brings together an account, a model, and a place to run your agents. Save the connection once, then assign it to the personas that should use it.

Before you start

Open the workspace where you want to work. Have access to the provider account you plan to connect. If this is your first setup, follow Connect your first AI provider for the complete walkthrough.

What you’re saving

• Credentials: the account connection, API key, or other sign-in details used to access the provider.
• Model: the model used for your personas’ work. Some providers also offer reasoning or thinking choices.
• AI Agent Location: where PersonaStack runs the agent. This can be a hosted location or your own connected Kubernetes cluster.

The provider name identifies this saved configuration. A name such as Planning AI is easier to recognize in Persona Settings than a name that only says “New provider.”

1. Add a connection

1. Open AI Providers in the sidebar.
2. Choose + Add AI Provider, or Create AI Provider when the directory is empty.
3. Choose the provider and give the connection a name.
4. Complete its credentials, model, and location fields.
5. Use the save action shown on the page.

The directory shows each saved connection’s model, location, status, and number of dependent personas. Open a card to change its settings or read a connection problem.

2. Assign it to a persona

1. Open the persona from Agent Personas.
2. Open its AI Provider picker.
3. Choose the saved connection and wait for the save confirmation.
4. Use Open Chat to send a small task.

Several personas can use the same provider connection. Before changing its model, credentials, or location, check the Used by list at the top of its settings page. Those personas share the configuration you are editing.

When a provider needs attention

Read the reason beside the connection status. An expired credential, unavailable model, and exhausted provider quota need different fixes. Open Details when more information is available.
