Start work from incoming events
A persona can start work when a connected service delivers an event. Choose the event source, limit its scope, and select the personas that should respond.
Choose the source
Use a messaging integration for conversations in Slack, Discord, Telegram, or Matrix. Use Incoming Webhook when your own service needs to send an event to PersonaStack. Other integrations may offer their own incoming-event setup.
Check the service’s configuration page for the receive controls it supports. A connection that only supplies tools does not automatically become an event source.
1. Configure receiving
Open the saved integration. Enable its reading or receiving option and complete any required setup. Choose the conversations or resources it should watch.
For Slack, reading scope controls what the persona may read. Wake mode separately controls which messages can start work. For Telegram, review the group-response rules. For Matrix, choose the watched rooms and finish device authorization.
Start with one known conversation or resource. It is easier to check one event’s behavior before widening the scope.
2. Choose the persona
- Open the persona’s settings.
- Under Integrations, select the saved connection.
- If it appears, enable Wake on incoming events beneath that connection.
- Wait for the save feedback.
The wake option applies to this persona. When several personas share the connection, choose deliberately which ones should respond. Attaching a tool connection and enabling event-driven work are separate choices.
3. Explain the response
Use the persona’s Personality and Instructions to describe what it should do when an event arrives. Name the situations that need a response and the result you expect.
Help answer questions about the Website Launch project. Reply with a short answer and identify any missing information. Do not change tasks, send unrelated messages, or take action outside this project unless I ask.
Choose Save Instructions. For Incoming Webhook, also use the connection’s Wake instructions to explain its payload.
4. Check one event
Send a short message from another account or submit a small sample event. Confirm the integration’s receive status, then open the persona’s Run Logs. Check whether the event started work and whether the response matched your instructions.
To stop automatic chat responses while retaining the connection’s tools, turn off that persona’s Wake on incoming events. See integration troubleshooting when a received event does not start work.
